Systems of Drift
Collages on the Edge of Thought
In Systems of Drift, Mieke Vandenbulcke explores the delicate boundary between structure and chance — between analytical thought and the unconscious gesture. These collages arise from meeting doodles: spontaneous marks made while listening, thinking, half-present in conversation. What begins as distraction becomes discovery — a map of mental rhythm.
Each piece reveals a small ecosystem of thought: lines and patterns that register parts of conversations, recall code fragments, architectural grids, city maps or reflect visual memories.

The series uncovers the creative potential hidden within attention’s drift — the moment when logic loosens and intuition begins to draw. Systems of Drift is both diary and diagram, a quiet ode to the visual echoes of thought.
