Biography

​

Mieke Vandenbulcke is a Belgian painter based in Brussels. From an early age, she developed a passion for drawing, sketching and painting. She spent her childhood and part of her youth in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa, where her family lived alternately in Congo, Rwanda and Burundi. The landscapes, colours and contrasts of these environments continue to resonate in her visual imagination.

At the age of twenty-three, she followed classes of photography and painting in Cape Town, South Africa. After a professional career in the IT sector, she returned to painting and further developed her artistic practice at the Sint-Lukas Academy in Brussels.

Today, her work explores the concept of time through landscapes, architecture and imagined spaces. Her paintings have been recognised internationally, notably through the London Art Biennale Award (2021) and the Leonardo Da Vinci International Prize (2023).
